Automotive: sales of new vehicles down 9.61%

107,007 units is the number of sales of new vehicles in Morocco at the end of August 2022. This figure expresses a drop of 9.61% compared to the same period in 2021, according to monthly statistics from the Association of Importers vehicles in Morocco (AIVAM).

In detail, the number of new passenger vehicle (VP) registrations amounted to 95,785 units for the first eight months of this year, down 8.15%, while that of light commercial vehicles (LCV) amounted to 11,222 units (-20.38%), specifies AIVAM.

The “Dacia” brand dominates the PC segment, with a market share of 27.6%, i.e. 26,435 units sold at the end of August 2022, followed by Renault which sold 13,222 units (13.8% market share) and Hyundai (9,623 units and 10.05% market share), notes the same source.

In the LCV segment, Renault sold 2,697 units (24.03% market share), ahead of DFSK which sold 1,645 vehicles (14.66% market share) and Ford 1,365 units (12.16% market share).

On the premium side, Audi increased its sales by 7.17% to 2,736 cars to reach a market share of 2.86%, ahead of BMW (1,866 units and a market share of 1.95%) and Mercedes (1,657 units and a market share of 1.73%).

For its part, Porsche sold 226 units, up 7.6%, while Jaguar sales fell 28.57% to 85 cars. For the month of August alone, AIVAM notes an increase in overall sales of 4.22% to 11,463 units. In detail, the VP segment recorded an increase of 7.34% with 10,014 units sold, while the VUL saw its sales drop by 13.23% to 1,449 units.
