Morocco’s Tourism Revenues Up 179.1% by End of July (Studies Department)

Morocco’s tourism revenues increased by 179.1% at the end of July 2022, totaling 36.7 billion dirhams, according to the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).

This performance follows the various measures taken to revive the sector, including the reopening of national borders, explains the DEPF in its business note of September 2022, stating that compared to the pre-crisis level, the recovery rate of tourism receipts has reached 88.4%, the DEPF points out in its September 2022 economic note.

At the end of the first half of 2022, the number of tourist arrivals was close to 3.4 million, representing a 303.4% increase, year on year, after a 57.3% drop a year earlier.

Overnight stays in classified accommodation facilities amounted to 6.2 million nights at the end of June 2022, up 128.9% year on year.

Compared to the pre-crisis level (end of June 2019), arrivals and overnight stays at the end of June 2022 represented nearly 63% and over 54% respectively.

As of July 2022, tourism receipts continue to exceed their pre-crisis level significantly. Compared to July 2019, they increased by 17.8%.
