Morocco Reports First Confirmed Case of Monkeypox – Health Ministry

The first confirmed case of monkeypox has been recorded in Morocco, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced Thursday.

“The case, coming from a European country, was identified under the protocol established by our country since the launch of the global health alert,” the ministry said in a statement.

The patient’s health condition is “stable and is not a cause for concern,” the ministry added. The confirmed case is under medical surveillance in accordance with the health measures adopted in this regard.

Upon confirmation of the results of laboratory tests, national and regional public health emergency operation centers have launched an inquiry to identify all the people who were in close contact with the patient, to watch them and take preventive measures to avoid the spread of the virus.

These close contacts have shown no symptoms so far, the statement said.

The World Health Organization has been notified about the country of origin of the confirmed case.

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection also said that it will continue to communicate with the national public opinion on the developments of the health situation.
