The King of Morocco has urged attendees of the United Nations Climate Change Summit to take bold and urgent action to address the increasing effects of climate change. Thousands of delegates have gathered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the annual climate change summit. The conference seeks to take action to address the warming planet.
In the first two days of the gathering, leaders of over 190 countries took turns to address the summit, including the representative of the King of Morocco.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Friday, December 1, 2023, the representative of King Mohammed VI urged world leaders to take ambitious actions commensurate with the scope and scale of the climate change crisis.
Several regions of the world are already facing the brunt of climate change, including Morocco. Although Africa contributes very little to greenhouse gas emissions, it is one of the regions most affected by climate change.
For many, progress within the United Nations process has often been too slow. The representative of the King said it was no longer time for “small steps.” She told delegates not to be embroiled in ideology and dogma, arguing that the direction should be rooted in pragmatism, voluntarism, ambition, and vision.
Eight years ago, world leaders undertook aggressive steps at the Paris Climate Summit to ensure average global temperatures do not rise above 2° Celsius.
The representative of the King expressed the hope that all state parties will maintain this momentum. “I hope that state parties will be more ambitious and that we will find collective solutions to this common challenge.”

In addition, the Moroccan Gallery will host several activities and events during the summit.
