Morocco’s Hassan Baraka to Take Part in Ice Water Swimming Expedition in Norway

Moroccan swimmer Hassan Baraka is preparing to swim, next May, 1000 m at the North Pole without wetsuit, as part of an expedition in Norway.

Selected among 16 international athletes to participate in this expedition, Hassan Baraka, the youngest swimmer in the world to swim across the five continents, will have to swim 1000 m on May 3 or 4, according to a statement by the organizers.

This expedition will be composed of 16 renowned swimmers, such as the Bulgarian Petar Stoychev, world champion on 25 km, former record holder of the Channel Tunnel crossing in less than 7 hours, or Marion Joffle, French swimmer expert in ice water, having won 10 medals, including 5 gold, during the last ice swimming world championships which took place in Poland last February.

In addition to Morocco, the countries represented in this expedition are South Africa, the Czech Republic, the United States, Italy, Bulgaria, Finland, England, France, Germany and Australia.

Hassan Baraka (35), a native of Tetouan, is the organizer of the “Ice Swim in Morocco”, the first ice water swimming race in Morocco. He is the first Moroccan to finish the World Marathon which consists of running 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents. Hassan Baraka has also swum across the straits of the Bosphorus and Gibraltar.
