China: New Step to Promote Investments in Morocco

The Moroccan Agency for the Development of Investment and Exports (AMDIE), organizes, from Monday, a roadshow in the People’s Republic of China, intended to promote Morocco’s destination among Chinese investors.

The Moroccan delegation at this roadshow, which runs until April 23, is led by the Minister Delegate to the Head of Governemnt in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mohcine Jazouli, who is accompanied by the Director General of AMDIE, Ali Seddiki.

The event is part of the multidimensional strategic partnership concluded in 2016 under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and the Chinese President, Xi Jinping. This partnership has already strengthened bilateral relations between the two countries and expanded their scope of cooperation.

The kick-off of this roadshow is given in Shanghai, financial hub of China, where Mr. Jazouli takes part in several business meetings with major decision makers and representatives of the automotive, pharmaceutical and energy sectors.

The objective of these meetings is to stimulate Chinese investment in Morocco, promote the assets of the Kingdom in terms of investment and encourage companies to seize opportunities for collaboration.

The second stage of this roadshow will take place in the Chinese capital Beijing, where high-level bilateral meetings will be held with the leaders of Chinese institutions, including the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of South-West Asia and North Africa, and the Minister of Commerce. These talks will be an opportunity to consolidate cooperation between the two friendly countries.

The Kingdom has already attracted the interest of many Chinese economic operators seeking a competitive platform and a favorable business climate such as Huawei, Citic Dicastal, CRBE, Covec, ZTE, China Exim Bank or Bank Of China.

Morocco and China are linked by historical trade partners and aim to raise their level of cooperation to a higher level.

Thanks to its strategic position, Morocco offers vast opportunities for Chinese investment, not only as a gateway to the African continent, but also to Europe and North America.

The potential for Chinese offshoring jobs could be as high as 85 million, according to World Bank estimates, and according to its former chief economist, Justin Lin, nearly 10% of those jobs could go to Africa. Morocco could capture a significant portion of this.

AMDIE supports the economic and social development of the Kingdom through its actions of promotion, canvassing and support of investment and export.

The promotion of Morocco’s economy internationally is achieved through the brand “Morocco Now”.
