Filmmaker Ayouch Represents Moroccan Cinema in Cannes Festival’s 75th Anniversary

Moroccan filmmaker Nabil Ayouch represented, on Tuesday, the Moroccan cinema alongside prominent figures of the international 7th art at the ceremony celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival.

If it is not his first red carpet Cannes, Nabil Ayouch is present at this ceremony to represent the potential of national cinema, honored at the Cannes Festival for the third consecutive time.

After the selection of “Adam” in 2019, the first feature film of Maryam Touzani, Nabil Ayouch presented in 2021 his Casablanca Beats, Morocco’s first feature film in the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival, which is a consecration for the national cinema, which has stood out during these three years through rigor and stories’ power.

The Moroccan cinema is illustrated in 2022 at the Cannes Film Festival with Maryam Touzani’s latest film “Le Bleu du Caftan”, which will be screened on Thursday, as part of the category “Un Certain Regard”.

Produced by Nabil Ayouch and co-produced by Amine Benjelloun, “Le Bleu du Caftan” is a feature film about transmission, tradition and love, in the broadest sense of the term.

The film features Halim and Mina; a couple who run a Caftan store in the Medina of Salé, joined by Youssef, a young apprentice who shares with his Maalem Halim, the same sincere passion for sewing.

“Le Bleu du Caftan” is performed by Lubna Azabal, Saleh Bakri, Ayoub Missioui, Mounia Lamkimel, Hamid Zoughi and many other Moroccan actors and actresses.
