Industry: 200,000 imports processed in 2022

The Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, said on Tuesday in Rabat that the number of import files processed in 2022 amounted to 200,000, including 2,434 files related to cases of non- compliance.

In response to a question on “the control of imported products” posed by the National Rally of Independents (RNI) group during an oral question session in the House of Councillors, Mr. Mezzour explained that the processing of importation generally requires seven days, to which is added one day, in the event of an inspection relating essentially, for certain files, to a lack of labeling or a verification of conformity of the imported products with the national standards in force. And to continue that in case of danger to the consumer, the importation of the products concerned is prohibited.

At the same time, Mr. Mezzour said that sixteen laboratories have been authorized to issue certificates of conformity, stressing that the field is open to any investment initiative for the construction of similar laboratories in any region of Morocco, “to provided that the required conditions are met”.

With regard to import licenses, the Minister specified that they relate to a small number of products and are required in cases linked in particular to the protection of national industry and the fight against dumping, as well as the control of certain products likely to present a danger to the Moroccan consumer.
