Launch of Project for Economic Empowerment of Women Heads of Household in Difficult Situations

The economic empowerment project for women heads of household in difficult situations was launched Thursday in Rabat, at the initiative of the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family.

This project, whose launching ceremony was chaired by Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Aawatif Hayar, in the presence of the Spanish Ambassador to Morocco, Ricardo Diez Hochleitner Rodriguez, and the Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Morocco, Luis Mora, was carried out within the framework of a cooperation program with UNFPA and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

In a statement to the press, Hayar said that this project is part of the implementation of the Royal High Directives on the empowerment of women, adding that it consolidates the strong partnership between stakeholders especially in the fight against violence towards women and economic empowerment of women heads of household.

This project will also promote social inclusion and will be an opportunity for the involvement of all actors committed to the socio-economic empowerment of women, she said.

For his part, the Spanish Ambassador to Morocco highlighted the relevance of the policy conducted by Morocco in the fight against social inequality, praising the importance of the program of economic empowerment of women heads of household in difficult situations.

In addition, the Spanish diplomat stressed that Morocco is a strategic partner for Spain.

Mora welcomed the “pioneering and innovative” nature of this project which targets a particularly vulnerable population, namely women heads of household in difficult circumstances. This project will be a pioneering model in South-South cooperation, he noted.

The 24-month project aims to improve the situation of women heads of household and strengthen their ability to cope with various forms of economic and social vulnerability. It targets, in a first phase, the regions of Beni Mellal-Khenifra and Casablanca-Settat in complementarity with the program “Jisr for empowerment and leadership”.
