Morocco Became Argentina’s Second Largest Trading Partner in Africa – Ambassador

In 2022, Morocco became Argentina’s second largest trading partner on the African continent, after Egypt, the Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to Morocco, Raúl Ignacio Guastavino, said on Thursday in Rabat.

Despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the trade between the two countries doubled in 2022, with an export value of almost 900 million dollars for Argentina and 500 million dollars for Morocco, explained Mr. Ignacio Guastavino in a statement to MAP, during the ceremony organized on the occasion of the national holiday of Argentina.

This trade balance is complementary for both countries, he stressed, adding that Argentina mainly imports phosphate, which is used in the agro-food industry, and exports rice, corn and soybeans.

With regard to bilateral relations, the diplomat recalled that several high-ranking Argentine officials have visited Morocco over the past nine months, including the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs and the Governor of the Santa Fe region, adding that visits have also been organized within the framework of the Morocco-Argentina political consultations.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed last June between Morocco and Argentina in the field of health, as part of the consolidation of these relations, he said. He also stressed the importance of continuing to promote bilateral cultural relations, particularly through student exchanges and mobility.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, and several ambassadors accredited to Morocco.
