Morocco Secure Five Medals at Para-Athletics World Championships Paris 2023

Morocco have managed to secure five medals at the ongoing World Para-Athletics Championships, held in Paris from July 8 to 17.

On Friday, Moroccan athlete Youssra Karim snatched a silver medal in the discus throw (F41) event with a distance of 35.42m, adding a fifth medal to Morocco’s overall tally.

The other medals were the fruit of remarkable performances by Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi who won a gold medal, Mouncef Bouja who won Morocco’s first silver medal, in addition to Oumaima Oubraym and Saïda Amoudi who each won a bronze medal.

Another Moroccan participant, Hayat El Garaâ, also displayed a commendable performance in Friday’s event, securing the fourth position with a throw of 30.15m.

Moroccans are actively participating in this prestigious sporting competition, which brings together 1,700 athletes from 120 countries, encompassing individuals with physical, visual, psychological, or mental disabilities. The national team comprises 18 male and female athletes.

The World Para-Athletics Championships, held at the Stade Charléty in Paris, is the second-largest international Paralympic competition, following the Paralympic Games.

This event holds great importance as a qualification opportunity for the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and operates under the authority of the international governing body, World Para Athletics.
