Morocco’s Flagship Carrier RAM Plans to Strengthen its Fleet, Expand Global Network – Says CEO

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) plans to strengthen its fleet and expand its global network to meet growing demand for Morocco as a destination, the national flagship carrier’s CEO Abdelhamid Addou said in an interview published Tuesday by Bloomberg.

RAM plans to open “many” new routes, mainly to Africa, Europe and the Americas, Addou said.

The Moroccan airline is putting the finishing touches to acquire new long- and medium-haul aircraft to meet an expected increase in tourist arrivals in Morocco and expand its network, the American media outlet points out.

A larger fleet is essential to reinforce the airline’s global stature and capitalize on Morocco’s brand image as a destination of choice for tourists, stressed RAM’s CEO on the sidelines of his participation in the “Bloomberg New Economy Gateway Africa” conference organized in Marrakech.

Royal Air Maroc wants to consolidate its Casablanca hub as a transit hub for sub-Saharan Africa, said Addou, noting that “the continent’s potential is very great and must be developed by African airlines.”
