Over 431,811 companies operated in the non-agricultural and non-financial market sectors in Morocco in 2019, according to the Moroccan Observatory of the Very Small, Small and Medium Enterprise (OMTPME).
These companies together employ 3,147,450 persons with a total cumulative turnover of 1,742.2 bln dirhams, including 304.3 bln dirhams in exports. They are also generating 377.5 bln dirhams in value added, the Observatory showed in its sectoral report on the companies operating in the non-agricultural and non-financial sectors in 2019 and 2020.
By sector, the companies are concentrated mainly in “Trade, repair of automobiles and motorcycles”, “Construction” and “Transport & Storage”, with respective shares of 34.5%, 15.6% and 10.1%.
As for the turnover, the leading sectors are the “Trade, repair of automobiles and motorcycles” with 644.1 billion dirhams (37% of total turnover), followed by “Manufacturing” with 362.2 billion dirhams (20.8%) and “Construction” with 226.2 billion dirhams (13%).
The “Manufacturing Industry” generates 625,148 jobs (20%), followed by “Trade, repair of automobiles and motorcycles” and “Construction”, with 17.9% and 17.1% respectively.
