Panel Discussion in Rabat Highlights Moroccan Associations’ Role in Promoting Amazigh Heritage

A panel discussion held in Rabat highlighted, on Tuesday the role of Moroccan cultural associations in promoting the Amazigh cultural heritage.

The meeting was organized by the Moroccan Association for Research and Cultural Exchange (AMREC) on the sidelines of the 17th UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

It was an opportunity to highlight various associative and institutional actors’ experience in promoting and protecting Moroccan cultural heritage in general and the Amazigh cultural heritage in particular.

In this regard, Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) Secretary General El Houcine El Moujahid reviewed various actions undertaken by the institute to promote and highlight the Amazigh culture and language at national and international levels.

He further stressed that “the effective promotion of Amazigh culture is a responsibility that falls to everyone whether an institution, an organization, a civil society, etc.”

“The creation of the IRCAM marked an important turning point in the promotion and enhancement of the Amazigh culture and was also a first step towards the institutionalization of the Amazigh culture,” he continued, recalling that since 2004 the institute has supported 2500 projects on culture.
