PAP President Hails Moroccan Experience in Port Management

Pan-African Parliament (PAP) President Fortune Zephaniah Charumbira on Monday called Morocco’s Tanger-Med Port “a big statement” on Morocco’s ability to “take the lead” in port management, urging other countries to learn from this experience.

“We visited Tanger-Med Port. That is a big statement on how a country on this continent can actually take the lead in a given sector; in this case trade and port management,” the African official during his visit to Morocco.

“Not so many other African countries have ports that are as organized as Tanger-Med’s”, he said, asking Morocco to share its expertise.

On another note, the African official emphasized the role of the PAP in addressing the challenges facing Africa, including COVID-19.

To address these challenges, Charumbira stressed the importance of ratifying the Malabo Agreement, signed in 2014, which allows the PAP to “have legislative powers to develop a large number of laws, especially in the field of trade.”

The African official, who expressed his warm thanks to the Kingdom for being one of the fourteen countries that have already ratified the Malabo Agreement, stressed the imperative of promoting inter-African trade.
