Six Moroccans Among the 40 Referees Announced for Women’s AFCON

The names of the 40 match officials that have been selected for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2022 have been announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Friday.

The list comprises 16 referees, 16 assistant referees and eight Video Assistant Referees (VAR) from 24 countries, a CAF statement said.

The Moroccan referees selected to officiate at this competition are Bouchra Karboubi as the main referee, Hamdi Soukaina and Fatiha Jarmoumi as assistant referees, as well as Samir Guezzaz, Fatimazzahra El Ajjani and Zakaria Brinsi as VAR referees.

The tournament will be played between July 2 and 23, 2022, in Rabat and Casablanca.

“Africa has made serious leaps in the development of women match officials. This final list compromises of currently the best in the continent. It took us a long time to get here. The several workshops and training camps we held assisted us in getting to the final decision,” CAF Director of Refereeing Eddy Maillet was quoted as saying.

“It was essential for us to bet on top quality, refereeing being one of the main priorities of CAF. And to fine-tune the last details, we are organizing a preparation course for all the referees of the competition, starting from 25 June 2022 in Rabat,” he added.

The opening game of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will feature hosts Morocco and debutants Burkina Faso on July 02, 2022, at Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat, Morocco.
