The Ministry of Industry and Commerce celebrates the National Trader’s Day

The Ministry of Industry and Trade celebrated Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the National Trader’s Day in Kser Lekbir, placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.

The theme of this edition was “The challenges of local commerce in the face of competition from modern commerce and the development of e-commerce”. This event, chaired by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Ryad Mezzour, brought together several players in the sector, representatives of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services, ministerial departments and public institutions, as well as as academics, professional organizations and private trade and distribution operators.

On this occasion, Mr. Mezzour underlined the important role that local trade plays in the national economic landscape, describing it as “an essential link in the supply chain, but also an unconditional financing alternative for Moroccan households”. The Minister also insisted on the priority given by the government to trade and to the trader, recalling the structural projects undertaken, to improve the working conditions of the trader, to develop the legislative framework of the sector and to better meet the expectations of the Moroccan consumer more and more. more demanding.

This new edition of the JNC was, precisely, the opportunity to take stock of the progress of the implementation of the recommendations resulting from the Moroccan Trade Forum held in April 2019. The Minister underlined, at this the importance of the generalization of compulsory health insurance, a flagship project implemented thanks to the High Royal Guidelines of His Majesty the King, may God assist him, as well as the efforts made to enable traders to improve their competitiveness. , in terms of modernization, digitization and financing.

During this day, the challenges facing the local trader were discussed through three round tables dedicated to the following themes:

The role of modernization in strengthening the competitiveness of local commerce.
The approach to be put in place to guarantee better financing for the merchant, taking into account the change in consumer behavior.
Future prospects in the light of the Royal project relating to social coverage.
This day was marked by the signing of several partnership agreements aimed at the development of local commerce:

A framework agreement on functional literacy for local traders, signed between the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the agency for the fight against illiteracy and the federation of chambers of commerce and industry.
Two specific agreements relating to the financial education of merchants, in partnership with the Moroccan Foundation for Financial Education, respectively with the CCIS of the Beni Melal-Khenifra region and the CCIS of the Fez Meknes region.
