Indeed, the head of Moroccan diplomacy spoke with his counterpart from the Republic of Iraq, Fuad Hussein on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the World Coalition in Marrakech against the Islamic State and the two ministers had confirmed the importance of developing Iraqi-Moroccan relations, and called for activating the work of this commission in order to hold its meetings in Baghdad next July. The two officials also agreed to sign a political consultation agreement during Bourita’s next visit to Baghdad, “in order to coordinate positions and serve the common interests of the two countries”. If the work of the commission was recorded in the joint press release, this was not the case for the reopening of the Moroccan embassy in Baghdad.

Recently, the charge d’affaires of the Iraqi embassy in Morocco, Botan Dizayee, declared that Bourita would go to Iraq in two months to meet President Barham Saleh and restore the Moroccan embassy to its former address, temporarily installed in Amman, Jordan. Indeed, closed for fifteen years, the Moroccan embassy in Baghdad had transferred its diplomatic services to the Jordanian capital.
Fuad Hussein explained that the Iraqi government is working to create an attractive investment climate in order to provide promising investment opportunities for Moroccan companies to participate in the construction of industrial, economic, agricultural and tourist infrastructure. During their meeting, Hussein and Bourita exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern and discussed ways to address challenges and implement peaceful solutions that would ensure security and stability. Nasser Bourita confirmed Morocco’s support for Iraq to overcome security challenges in order to preserve its stability and sovereignty. He added that Morocco is regionally reliable and has clear foreign relations, and expressed Morocco’s support for Iraq to become a member of the World Trade Organization.
Nasser Bourita also congratulated his Iraqi counterpart for the success of the legislative elections of October 12, 2021, the conduct and transparency of which were hailed internationally. He also renewed his congratulations to Iraq for defeating terrorism and liberating its territory from the terrorist organization “Daesh”.
