Transfers of funds made by Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) amounted to nearly 93.3 billion dirhams (MMDH) at the end of December 2021, against 68.18 billion dirhams a year earlier, according to the Office des changes.
These shipments thus show an increase of 36.8% or 25.07 billion dirhams, specifies the Office in its monthly bulletin of foreign trade indicators for the month of December 2021.
The Office also reports a surplus in the balance of trade in services amounting to more than 64.16 billion dirhams, up 0.3%.
In detail, exports improved by 6% to stand at 139.018 billion dirhams at the end of December 2021, and imports increased by 11.4% to 74.855 billion dirhams, specifies the same source.
Travel, the main component of trade in services, posted a surplus balance down 8.9% compared to the end of 2020. In comparison with the end of 2019, the period before the Covid-19 crisis, this balance recorded a sharp drop. by 59.2%.
This change is mainly attributable to the 6% decline in travel receipts, standing at 34.273 billion dirhams at the end of December 2021. Travel expenses, meanwhile, remained almost stable compared to the end of December 2020.
