UEFA President Backs Morocco’s Joint Bid to Host 2030 World Cup with Spain, Portugal

Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) President Aleksander Ceferin expressed, Wednesday in Lisbon, his support for the joint bid of Portugal, Spain and Morocco to organize the 2030 World Cup.

Speaking at a press briefing, held after his re-election for a third term of four years at the 47th Ordinary Congress of UEFA, Ceferin gave his full support to this “good” joint candidacy of Portugal, Spain and Morocco to organize the 2030 soccer World Cup.

“It is logical that Morocco unites with the Iberian Peninsula. It is very close to Portugal and Spain,” said the president, reappointed by acclamation to the head of the European body, ensuring that he will support this “good initiative.”

The Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, said that the joint candidacy of Portugal, Spain and Morocco will unite two continents through sport. According to him, “There is no more powerful message than soccer. Together we can achieve peace, tolerance and understanding between peoples.

HM King Mohammed VI announced Morocco’s joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup on March 14 in Kigali, in a message on the occasion of the presentation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President’s Outstanding Achievement Award-2022.

This joint bid, unprecedented in the history of soccer, will be the junction between Africa and Europe, between the north and south of the Mediterranean, and between the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds, noted the Sovereign.
