UN: Morocco Calls for International Cooperation Beneficial to African Countries

Morocco calls for strengthening international cooperation that serves African countries, including through debt relief and development initiatives to address current and future economic shocks, said Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, during the general debate of the 77th UN General Assembly.

Akhannouch recalled, in this regard, that the successive visits of HM King Mohammed VI to the various countries of the continent, attest to this conviction through the launch of structural projects of cooperation and partnership to consolidate sustainable development, ensure food security and promote economic development, in a firm commitment to inter-African complementarity.

The Head of Government also recalled the recent holding in Morocco, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, of the 14th edition of the US-Africa Business Summit, with the objective of boosting the flow of investments to priority sectors for African countries.

In his statement on behalf of Morocco, Akhannouch noted that Africa is the continent that pays the heaviest price to the economic situation arising from the current global geostrategic crisis, suffering the full force of rising food and energy prices. Such a situation jeopardizes the achievements of Africa in sustainable development, he lamented, while considering that the continent has the potential to transform these challenges into opportunities given its human and natural resources, in addition to the prospects opened through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
