5 Moroccan Minors Escape World School Championship in Slovakia

Five Moroccan minors have fled the World School Cross Country Championship 2022 in Slovakia, so they do not have to return to Morocco.

The five athletes, one of whom is a female, fled from the hotel where the Moroccan delegate has been staying on Monday, Moroccan sports analyst at BeIn Sports EL Houssein Ben Zraigenat announcedon Tuesday on Facebook.

Ben Zraigenat said he “wishes the escapees success amid the chaos, neglect, and contempt” of the “dictatorial and colonial (Royal Moroccan Athletics) Federation who destroyed the history of Morocco,” as well as young athletes.

Ben Zraigat also criticized Morocco’s “underdeveloped sporting system,” calling for an immediate intervention from Morocco’s federation to address the challenges.

Moroccan sports outlet Almarssad pro also reported on the escape incident, describing it as a ”new scandal” that is “ravaging Moroccan sports again”.

The Moroccan delegate at the championship in Slovakia won six medals – one gold medal, four bronze medals, and 1 silver medal – out of 24. They also won three cups out of 12.

Student athlete Jawad Khchina won the gold medal in the individual category of the championship.
