Aeronautics: Hexcel Inaugurates Extension of its Plant in Casablanca

The manufacturer of advanced composite materials for the aeronautics sector, Hexcel Corporation, inaugurated on Wednesday the extension of its manufacturing plant Engineered Core, in the industrial zone of Midparc in Casablanca.

The new facility is part of Hexcel’s ongoing global investment to create a diversified and robust global supply chain to meet the worldwide customers’ demand for engineered cores and aerospace materials.

At the new facility, Hexcel converts lightweight honeycomb materials into machined parts for structural reinforcement, with particular applications in the aerospace industry for aircraft structures, engine nacelles and helicopter blades.

The Casablanca plant is thus dedicated to manufacturing complex structures to meet the requirements of the aerospace industry. Thanks to its experience in manufacturing these parts, Hexcel is the leader in this technology used in commercial and military aerospace as well as in engines and nacelles to save weight in composite structures.

“The Moroccan industrial sector is more than ever, among the most competitive in the world,” said Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour, attributing the development of the country’s industry to the competence, commitment and ambition of Moroccan talent.

He also stressed the power of American industry, especially in the aerospace sector, and the strength of relations between Morocco and the United States, which are experiencing a significant dynamic.

He specified that that the mastery of new technologies represents an opportunity for this sector where demand is increasingly growing while the supply is still in deficit, adding that the national industry is in full revival following the crises recorded lately.

For her part, Aimee Cutrona, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Morocco, emphasized Morocco’s progress in terms of manufacturing industrial materials, job creation in the sector, and export capacity.

She noted that aerospace, which is now booming, is a key sector to further strengthen the long-standing cooperation between Morocco and the United States, adding that the implementation and expansion of Hexcel in Morocco is a perfect example of the strong relationship between the two countries.

For his part, Thierry Merlot, President of Hexcel – Aerospace Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Africa & Industry, said that the size of the plant is increased to nearly 13,000 m2, while the workforce increases to 400 people eventually.

He added that this expansion reflects Hexcel’s commitment to sustainable development and confirms the soundness of the company’s strategy, Morocco’s quality infrastructure, the commitment and support of all stakeholders and local authorities, and the competence of Moroccan talent.
