Dakar: Strong Moroccan Delegation Takes Part in 66th UIA Congress

An important Moroccan delegation, composed of 45 lawyers including 17 presidents of the Bar, took part in the 66th Congress of the International Union of Lawyers (UIA), held on October 26-30 at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CIDAD) in Diamniadio, 30 km from Dakar.

This event, whose main theme is “The governance of mining and energy resources in Africa and beyond,” was an opportunity for the members of the delegation to consolidate the relations of Moroccan lawyers and Bars with representatives of various international Bars and world organizations.

During this meeting, the lawyers discussed two major themes namely the governance of mining and energy resources and beyond and the efficiency and relevance of judicial systems.

The 66th Congress of the International Union of Lawyers was marked by several meetings and gatherings, including forums of African lawyers, Arabic-speaking lawyers, Asian lawyers, lawyers from Central and Eastern European countries and Latin American lawyers.

There are also forums for French-speaking lawyers, German-speaking lawyers, Portuguese-speaking lawyers and Spanish-speaking lawyers. A special session on “Sexual Violence in Conflict Zones”, moderated by one of the guests of honor of the 66th Congress, Denis Mukwege, was held during this Congress.

Some thirty working sessions led by nearly 300 international speakers were held in parallel at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Center during this meeting.

The opening ceremony of this meeting, which was attended by about 800 lawyers from over 80 countries, was chaired by the Head of State of Senegal, Macky Sall.
