Marrakech : M. Akhannouch visite le site devant abriter les assemblées générales annuelles du Groupe de la Banque Mondiale et du FMI

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired, Monday in Marrakech, the 3rd meeting of the national steering committee for the organization of the annual General Assemblies of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and paid a visit to the site to host, next October, these high-level meetings.

The Head of Government, who was accompanied by members of the National Steering Committee for the organization of these meetings, thus visited the various spaces to house these general assemblies in order to learn on the spot the progress of the preparations and to ensure the capacity of the infrastructures put in place to accommodate, in the best conditions, 14,000 high-level participants, including Ministers of Economy and Finance and Governors of Central Banks from 189 member countries.

On this occasion, explanations were presented to Mr. Akhannouch and the members of the National Steering Committee on this site and its various dependencies and infrastructures put in place.

The Head of Government, who at the same time chaired the 3rd meeting of the Steering Committee, highlighted the influence now acquired by the Kingdom by hosting renowned global events, recalling the achievements made in terms of infrastructure and structuring projects, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Mr. Akhannouch also stressed that the choice of Morocco to host a world meeting at the level of the annual general assemblies of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, which are held every three years in a different continent, reflects the particular interest that international financial institutions grant to the Kingdom, noting that this event offers Morocco the opportunity to make the voice of the African continent heard by the international community.

He also called on the parties concerned, ministerial departments and local authorities of the city of Marrakech, to deploy all the necessary efforts to ensure the success of this important event and to guarantee the best conditions for welcoming participants.

For her part, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mrs. Nadia Fettah indicated that this third meeting of the National Steering Committee, which saw the participation of all partners at the central and local levels, was devoted to the progress of work on the site to host these important events, the areas of intervention and the scientific program of this event, noting that these annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF are returning to the African continent after being organized for the first time in Nairobi, in Kenya fifty years ago.

In a statement to the press, the Minister further explained that this global meeting devoted to the examination of various issues related to the financial fields and the private sector offers the opportunity to highlight the major achievements made by Morocco as well as the investment opportunities offered to international investors over the past twenty years, in accordance with the Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in order to support the efforts made by the Kingdom in this direction and to shed light on the dynamics that Morocco is experiencing, like the whole of the country. African continent.

The following took part in the steering committee meeting: Mr. Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, Mrs. Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mrs. Fatim Ezzahra El Mansouri, Minister of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy, Mrs. of the Social and Solidarity Economy, Ms. Laila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Mr. Mohamed Abdeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, as well as Mr. Abdellatif Jouahri, wali of Bank Al Maghrib, Mr. Karim Kassi-Lahlou, wali of the Marrakech-Safi region and governor of the prefecture of Marrakech, Mr. Fouad Yazourh, ambassador director general at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans s Residing Abroad, and Mr. Adel El Fakir, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourist Office.

These annual meetings will be structured around six main themes, which are financial and digital inclusion, sustainable development, reforms of international financial institutions, entrepreneurship and innovation, social safety nets and tolerance and living together.

The meetings of the World Bank-IMF Group constitute an annual meeting that brings together high-level international economic and financial operators, with a view to proposing solutions to the challenges of the future.
