Morocco Participates in 27th Executive Committee of UCLG Africa in Nouakchott

The 27th session of the Executive Committee of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG) opened, Monday in Nouakchott, with the participation of Morocco.

Morocco is represented at this meeting, the first since the 9th edition of the Africities Summit held in Kisumu, Kenya, by president of the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Local Councils (AMPCC) and Mayor of Tangier, Mounir Laymouri.

In a statement to MAP, Laymouri, who is also vice president of UCLG Africa, highlighted the importance of African cooperation on the scale of local governments for the development of Africa and the need to put in place mechanisms to activate this cooperation.

Laymouri said that Morocco works, constantly, to create effective mechanisms able to consolidate this decentralized cooperation, recalling in this context, the creation of the African Development Fund by the Ministry of Interior to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and African countries at the level of local authorities, through the role of the Fund in financing local projects to provide sustainable development opportunities in Africa.

He stressed that the participation of the Kingdom in this meeting is part of the commitment and awareness of the importance of promoting the international and continental presence of Moroccan local elected officials, noting that it is also a question of helping build a fruitful cooperation between the various local authorities in Africa in various areas related to the management of local affairs.
