Sekkouri highlights need to create jobs for better youth economic inclusion

Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills Younes Sekkouri stressed, on Monday in Rabat, the need to create quality jobs for better economic inclusion of young people.

“It will be necessary to prepare reel jobs where there is a real creation of wealth and a real change of perspective for young people,” said Sekkouri, who was speaking at the opening of a seminar to share research findings on youth economic inclusion at the initiative of the Millennium Challenge Account-Morocco (MCA-Morocco) and the Morocco Employment Lab (MEL), led by the Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) at the Harvard Kennedy School and the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS).

“Generations Y and Z are not looking for subsistence or survival,” said the minister, noting that this does not correspond to their ideal life.

He said that the “NEET” (Not in Education, Employment or Training) represent a significant part of Moroccan youth, noting that the economic inclusion of youth is a fundamental issue, whose approaches on the ground have not necessarily shown their effectiveness.

He further noted that “the economic inclusion of young people is a new issue in the architecture of the government and the fact of having elevated this competence to ministerial rank reflects the importance that the government attaches to this issue.

The Minister also noted that the Kingdom is on the right track to establish the policy of impact assessment of public policies, which, according to him, must take root further.
