ONDA: Moroccan airports beat a new traffic record

The airports of the Kingdom achieved a new record of 12,197,957 passengers welcomed during the first half of 2023, an increase of 5% compared to the same period of 2019, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).

This development concerns the majority of airports which recorded double-digit growth rates, namely Tangier (42%), Oujda (32%), Nador (25%), Fez (17%), Agadir (13%), Marrakech (10%), indicates ONDA in a press release.

With 1,166,657 passengers welcomed during the first half of the year, domestic traffic posted a recovery rate of 83% compared to the same period of 2019, specifies the same source.

International air traffic, meanwhile, increased by 7% compared to the same period of 2019, i.e. 11,031,300 passengers welcomed. This change is explained by the good performance recorded by the European and North American markets, with double-digit growth rates of +13% and +22% respectively.

In addition, ONDA reports that during the first half of 2023, there were 97,071 aircraft movements, representing a recovery rate of 98% compared to the same period of 2019. The share of Mohammed airport V is 38% of this traffic, Marrakech Menara 24% and Agadir Al Massira 8%.

Air freight recorded, in H1-2023, a recovery rate of 76% compared to the same period of 2019, to stand at 37,168 tonnes against 48,696 tonnes recorded during H1-2019
