Pharma 5 inaugurates the Smart Factory, the first 4.0 pharmaceutical factory in Africa

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, Pharma 5 Group inaugurated the Smart Factory, the first 4.0 pharmaceutical factory in Africa, in the presence of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch. This new fully digitized industrial unit will enable the group to multiply its production capacities by 5 and actively participate in the ambitious national project to generalize AMO.

Located in Casablanca, in the Oulad Salah industrial zone in Bouskoura, the new factory, which covers more than 12,000 m², required an investment of more than 300 million dirhams. The result of close collaboration between Moroccan know-how in the pharmaceutical industry and the best international expertise, the Smart Factory now allows the Pharma 5 Group to multiply its production capacities by 5, while ensuring perfect traceability of the product. production processes thanks to remote and real-time monitoring tools installed in all compartments of the factory, built using the Shell Building technique*: management of liquid flows, management of air quality, pressure, humidity, temperature to ensure “Data Integrity”.

Conceived in a one-of-a-kind innovation ecosystem that places agility at the heart of the entire design and operating process thanks to the digitalization of processes, combined with the robotization of certain operations, the plant is distinguished by its ability to integrate all future technological advances, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence.
For Mia Lahlou-Filali, General Manager of the Pharma 5 Group, “This new industrial unit is a significant contribution to the royal project to generalize compulsory health insurance and guarantee national health sovereignty. The generic drug “Made in Morocco” is indeed a major component of the care that millions of our compatriots already benefit from”.

In addition, during the inauguration ceremony of the Smart Factory, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Pharma 5 and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. “The agreement we are ratifying today concerns the creation of new production units for injectables, biotechnologies, new galenic forms and research and development in new therapeutic areas,” explains Mia Lahlou-Filali and continues: “ Pharma 5 thus undertakes to invest no less than 300 million dirhams by 2027 and to create a minimum of 300 direct jobs”.

In addition to the actual presence of the Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, this inauguration was also marked by the presence of a large ministerial delegation composed in particular of Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection and Mr. Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies.

Committed for 40 years in favor of therapeutic independence and access to care for all, Pharma 5 confirms with this inauguration its rank as a pioneer in the pharmaceutical industry both in Morocco and in Africa. With more than a billion units produced in 2022, Pharma 5 is today the leader in generic drugs in Morocco and exported to more than 40 countries, thus rising to 7th place on the African market, which does not count no less than 1,200 international players.
